School Section

School Section presents prototypes for landscape-scaled writing systems, alongside research relating land use, educational philosophy and democratic organization. The triad of concerns has roots in Thomas Jefferson’s theoretical township model, which was used to privatize and 'civilize' uncharted lands. Regions where Jefferson’s agrarian-based model first faltered—as its blank grid encountered arid canyonlands and the land claims of prior cultures—focus the selection of sites.

Developed for and presented at Tensta Konsthall, Stockholm/Spånga, 2014. Curated by Lars Bang Larsen and Maria Lind as part of the exhibition series, The New Model.
